About Handmade Paints
My handmade watercolours are crafted with natural earth based pigments. Each pigment has it’s own personality and quirks, and overall my watercolours will behave a bit differently from standard commercial paints.
My watercolours are made using a simple combination of natural pigment and handmade binder, made from acacia sap, honey, glycerin, clove oil and water. I don’t use any fillers or other hidden ingredients.
Some pigments tend to form cracks or bubbles as they dry in their pans. This is normal, purely cosmetic and does not affect the quality of the paint. Every pigment just reacts a bit differently when drying.
Similarly, the consistency of our paints can shift a bit depending on their environment. With humidity paints can soften, and in drier weather they can become more hard and brittle.
Some mineral paints take longer to re-activate with water. If you’re having trouble getting a full range of colour try adding a drop of water to the pan and waiting a moment for the pigment to start flowing before painting.
