Understory watercolours are crafted in small batches from natural, earth based pigments. Each pan of paint is carefully mulled by hand with a simple formula tailored to each pigment. Paint pans are poured and dried in layers to minimize bubbles and cracks and to make sure they’re as full as possible.

These colours in this palette contain a mix of natural and synthetic pigments. They contain natural, ethically sourced mica powder which is then coated with synthetic titanium dioxide and iron oxide. This is what allows them to reflect the light so well and shimmer on paper.

This palette includes three pans of paint nestled into a small, black metal tin for storage.

Oceanspray: A soft, cream coloured white with a yellow-gold shimmer under direct light. Named for the delicate, cascading blooms that lend us their soft glow in June.

Sunspell: A brilliant gilded yellow like morning shunshine spilling over water, this colour shines as bright as liquid gold.

Wildrye: A moody golden brown, like a tall field dancing in the summer wind. This colour has some slight purple undertones, a light gold shimmer at certain angles, and some lovely dual-tone seperation.
