Lapis Lazuli
Stonebound watercolours are crafted in small batches from natural, earth based pigments. Each pan of paint is carefully mulled by hand with a simple formula tailored to each pigment. Our pans are poured and dried in layers to minimize bubbles and cracks and to make sure they’re as full as possible. All orders are shipped in a palm sized metal tin for easy storage and each pan is fitted with a small magnet to hold it in place.
Lapis Lazuli - This delicate sky blue is made from a rare, semi-precious stone called Lapis Lazuli. The colour is crisp and bright, with some granulation and a very faint red-ish undertone.
For those pigment nerds out there, the stone Lapis Lazuli gets it’s unique colour thanks to the mineral Lazurite, which has famously been used to create ultramarine blue pigments and paints for at least 1500 years. The rarity and high cost of the natural pigment is what spurred the development of the synthetic ultramarine blues that are widely used by artists today.
