Mini Ceramic Palette - Alpenglow
Understory watercolours are crafted in small batches from natural, earth based pigments. Each pan of paint is carefully mulled by hand with a simple formula tailored to each pigment. Paint pans are poured and dried in layers to minimize bubbles and cracks and to make sure they’re as full as possible.
These little handmade palettes fit in the palm of one hand, and have been filled with the colours from the Alpenglow set. They’re small enough to fit inside a little metal tin for easy storage if you’re painting on the go. The wells are small, but I’ve topped them off with as much paint as they can fit, and each one should contain about half as much as my standard pans.
This palette has 2 options for the glaze. The first is a matte white which shows the speckled clay beneath it, and the second is a more opaque, smoky dark grey.
The colours in this set are Cirque, Mountain Hemlock, Larch, Sundown, Grizzly and Moraine. Full colour descriptions below…

Cirque: A soft teal blue for painting those bright glacial waters. Created from a mix of natural indigo and yellow ochre.
Mountain Hemlock: A deep bluish green, like the weathered trees around an alpine tarn.
Larch: A brighter, more yellow leaning green for layering in morning light or painting lush meadows.
Sundown: A brilliant tangerine orange for high alpine sunsets. Hematite and goethite in this soil pigment gives it an incredible tinting strength.
Grizzly: A warm brown ocher with mild granulation and a strong tinting strength.
Moraine: A deep and striking slate grey, with plenty of texture and granulation. Perfect for painting those high mountain peaks or rocky creek beds.
